Jane Danger Is Baking With Booze

Booze and baked goods: These are a few of my favorite things.

It would seem Jane Danger (pictured above) understands me. Barkeep turned baker, Jane has created a stir by using cocktails and spirits as the inspiration for her pastries at her charming shop in Manhattan’s East Village, Jane's Sweet Buns.

Prior to opening her bakery, Jane spent seven years bartending in New York City. Starting at the iconic (and infamous) CBGB's, she worked her way through some of the coolest downtown cocktail haunts —PDT, Little Branch, and Death and Co, to name a few, and headed up the punch program at Cienfuegos. At Jane's Sweet Buns, she's using her skills as a craft bartender to create boozy baked goods.

"It's always been my dream to combine my passion for baking with my love of cocktails," Jane said.

And now Jane is teaming up with Campari to create three original treats featuring the spirit.

"I'm a huge fan of Campari and have been for as long as I can remember," said Jane. "These Campari sweet treats are my personal homage to the spirit. Campari enthusiasts will detect its unique signature flavor immediately."

Jane served her goodies at Chef's Night Out in Chelsea Market on Sunday evening.

Campari Shortbread with Lemon Rose Buttercream

2 tbsp. Campari
3/4 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp. grapefruit juice
1 tbsp grapefruit zest
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp sea salt
2 cups all-purpose flour
Lemon Rose Buttercream, recipe follows

Cream butter and sugar. Add liquids. Sift in flour and salt. Roll out, use cutter to make cookies into desired shape. Bake at 325º for 8 minutes. Frost with lemon rose buttercream.

Lemon Rose Buttercream
1 lb. butter, soft
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
1 tsp. rose water
1 drop rose colored gel

Whip all ingredients until fluffy.
