Cookie Cutter Garlands

After you've finished baking your dozens, put those cute cookie cutters to good use. The metallic and festively shaped cutters will fit right in with the rest of your holiday decor.

Velvet Undergound

String velvet ribbons through the cutters to add a splash of elegance and color to your sparkly decor. Click through to the next slide for instructions.

Gather Your Materials

•        Assorted holiday-themed cookie cutters

•        3/8 inch gold wired ribbon

•        7/8-inch red velvet ribbon

•        Scissors

Step 1

String the cookie cutters onto velvet ribbon.

Step 2

Cut gold wired ribbon into 5-inch strips.

Step 3

On a flat surface, space cookie cutters approximately three inches apart. Pinch center of red ribbon in between two cookie cutters, and tightly wrap red ribbon with gold strip. Repeat between every two cookie cutters.

Second Time Around

Lay the garland down the center of your table along with festive votives or decorative seasonal mercury glass objects to play up the metallic touches.

DIY Peppermint Hurricanes

With all the baking and blending going on in your kitchen around the holidays, you're bound to have some leftover ingredients. Gather all your pantry staples in white and off-white shades to craft these peppermint hurricanes.

Minty Fresh

These crafty table centerpieces bring that candycane look to your holiday table –– no additional purchases required.

All Hands on Deck

They are perfect for making with the kids, too. Try using fine-grain materials like sugars and flours or add interesting textures with ingredients like coconut flakes.

Gather Your Materials

•        Glass jar

•        Twine or ribbon

•        Tealight candles

•        White dry ingredients like powdered sugar, sea salt, sprinkles, coconut flakes and granulated sugar

•        Red dry ingredients like chili flakes, paprika, cinnamon and sprinkles

Step 1

Lightly tap a white ingredient into the jar and use fingers to flatten. Alternate layers of white and red ingredients (of varying degrees of thickness). Keep in mind that peppermints are primarily white with thin red layers throughout.

Step 2

Continue adding layers of ingredients until you fill the jar, taking care not to shake the mason jar excessively, as this can cause layers to mix together.

Step 3

Press candle in center of top layer.

Step 4

Wrap twine or ribbon around jar and tie bow. Light candle. Repeat for remaining mason jars.

Snowflake Luminaria

This easy-to-craft, winter wonderland-inspired luminary display is a festive alternative to simply votive candles. Put those extra brown paper bags to good use by cutting out snowflake shapes and placing a twinkling LED light in the center.

Gather Your Materials

•        Paper lunch bags

•        Pencil

•        Printable snowflake stencil

•        Craft knife

•        Scallop-edge hole punch

•        LED light

•        4 1/2 inch-wide piece of card stock paper

•        Scissors

Step 1

Cut 2 inches off top of paper bag.

Step 2

Punch scalloped edge using hole punch.

Step 3

Set printable snowflake stencil on sheet of card stock paper or cutting board, and cut out using craft knife.

Step 4

Place snowflake stencil onto center of paper bag on the side without seam, and trace with pencil.

Step 5

Insert sheet of card stock into paper bag.

Step 6

Use craft knife to cut out snowflake along pencil marks. Once done, erase any visible pencil marks from original tracing.

Step 7

Set LED light into center of bag. Repeat with remaining lunch bags and cluster along the center of your dining table.
