Start With a Great Invitation
Get the party started right by making sure you include all the information your guests need on the invitation. Let them know how many cookies to bring, if they should have tin to transport the cookies and any other vital party notes. And go old school and send by mail: Who doesn't love finding something other than a bill in their mailbox? If you're worried about having similar cookies at your party, assign cookie types on each invitation.
Serve a Few Savory Bites
While there's no need to put out a big spread, having a few savory bites on hand will help everyone avoid a sugar rush. Put out a few dips: Hot Crab Dip and Spinach and Artichoke Dip are warming winter options. Have a few trays of hand-held mini appetizers throughout the party; you'll likely be nibbling on cookies long into the night. Keep as much food as you can in your living room. Guests tend to congregate in the kitchen, but try to keep them moving throughout the house.
Don't Forget the Beverages
Wine and beer can be standard drinks for any party, so take your drinks one step further by adding Mulled Cider to the mix. Or create your own signature cocktail based on our holiday party favorites. Not everyone imbibes during the holidays, so keep some virgin hot drinks on hand, like our Peppermint Hot Chocolate.
Of Course, the Cookies
Everyone should bring enough cookies so that each guest gets to take home at least two of each kind. For 12 guests, there should be two dozen of each cookie. As each guest arrives, offer to take the cookies so you can arrange them nicely on your main table. Find tiered cookie trays to display everyone's cookies. It will make for a beautiful holiday table. Have each guest print out his or her recipe on card stock to pass around at the party. Or have everyone email you the recipe and print out the whole group for your guests.
Give a Parting Gift
Add a sweet touch and have cookie tins on hand for guests. This way they can take their cookies home in style and have a memory of your holiday event.
