Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Add the oil, agave nectar and applesauce directly into the dry ingredients. Stir until the batter is smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake on the center rack until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 20 minutes.

Thanks Bobby for this great, healthy recipe. Unlike the other reviewers, I found the brownies to be sweet enough plus moist and tasty. Although I don't have a medical concern with gluten, I do prefer a gluten- free diet. I just used brown rice flour and followed the recipe except for adding vanilla. Unsweetened coconut and/or walnuts are a nice addition as well. I like the concept of this show. Too many Americans are overweight and unhealthy. I just love Jamie's show, too-- adorable family!

This is more like cake, very moist but bland tasting, not enough sweetner n this recipe. You have to cook them longer than 20 minutes @ 325, more like 30-35 minutes.

I was watching this episode and was excited when the baker said she made gluten free goodies! But please please please do not call spelt flour gluten free! It is not! It is NOT safe at all for celiacs! I would hate to see anyone new to this diagnosis think it is okay. Plus, well meaning friends often want to make celiacs a treat and they wouldn't know better!!
The recipe however is lovely when made with a gluten free flour blend
