Directions

Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees F.

In a small bowl, mix together the flour, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, egg, and soda water. Before dipping the onion rings, add some ice cubes to keep the mixture very cold.

Dip the separated onion slices into the batter until they are all coated and set aside. Repeat with the remaining rings.

Deep fry the rings, a few at a time for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove to paper towels to drain. Season with salt, pepper and serve.

Cook's Note: Ice makes the batter cold and that makes it better for frying.

these are absolutely PHENOMENAL! and so easy!
I made my batter just a pinch thicker than Chuck's, and no cayenne, but the rest the same, and they're SO good!
Restaurant quality, light, flaky, the onion is tender and almost gone, but lightly sweet and SO tasty. I've never made a review like this lol
I'm so happy to have found a great onion ring recipe since a restaurant with my favorite to-go onion rings closed!
Make sure your oil is HOT enough though.

Delicious! Made them for my husband, who is barely starting to like onions, and he looooved them. Simple, yet satisfying!
