Loved this rice!! Great flavor and texture. So easy to make… cook onions ahead of time and boil rice right before you serve. I did not chop my thyme, just peeled it off the stem right into the pan. Would be great for a dinner party. My entire family loved this rice. Would certainly be easy to change flavor profile by changing the herb. Will definitely make again and again.

Where do I begin with this great recipe? It's a weekly staple in our home and my #1 go to side dish when in a pinch. Our 3 year old loves it as much as my foody friends and sadly I can eat it alone as a meal. It's just so good. I had heard of boiling your rice like pasta - but used my rice cooker thinking it would make the best rice. I was WRONG. Not only do you cut about 30 minutes off cooking time (mine is always perfectly done in 12 minutes it's always fluffy and light. I use long grain white rice - but have tried it with brown rice and it takes 15 minutes for me. I chop the grilled onions - add it to the rice when done and voila - a very tasty side dish is ready. BEST TIP - just make sure you salt the boiling water to the taste of the sea. KID FRIENDLY - make sure to cut the cooked onions into very small pieces and add cooked peas. I add them to the boiling water during the last few minutes.
This is better than Rice Pilaf in my book.

Wonderful alternative to "boring" steamed rice. I also used dried thyme and it was fine. Onions sauteed approximately 20-25 minutes and rice takes 11-12 minutes. Next time I will cut the recipe in half because it makes enough for a large crowd.

Love this recipe! I did not have any fresh thyme so I used about 1 teaspoon of dried. It worked great. This recipe is so simple, but it makes the rice very special. I doubt I'll ever make plain rice again.

Was very good, I cut down on the onions because I though it was too much but I shouldn't have done that. I'll make it again!

This was SOOOO delicious and SOOOO easy! This can be served almost any dish that has rice as a side. The variation possibilites are bountiful! Boiling the rice makes this quick, effortless. The sweet carmalized onions, tons of flavor! We'll be eating a lot more rice in my home!
