This was a delicious soup... more work than I first realized. The directions are not clear in spots, but dig in and pay attention and the results are worth it. My husband loved it. I didn't find the cinnamon flavor overpowering, though there are some spices which are unusual for our day to day cuisine. All in all, it is going into the keeper file. It makes enough squash for a second round of soup and spice enough to store for future use as well. Thanks for breaking us out of the doldrums! Yum!

This recipe is a lot of work. It is has complex flavors. It doesn't remotely taste like butternut squash soup because the squash gets overpowered by so many powerful flavorings like balsamic vinegar and the spice mixture. My son said it should be called cinnamon soup. For me, it's all about the squash and simple is best for this mild tasting vegetable.
