A New Old-Fashioned Cocktail

Getting reviews...
The Old-Fashioned is a cocktail that has been around for a long time but is experiencing something of a revival these days. I tasted a one-of-a-kind Old-Fashioned at Cafe Moderne in Paris. It inspired me to have some fun and do my own twist on this classic. In my version, I use simple syrup to be sure the sugar is fully dissolved and therefore flavoring the whole cocktail. Also, I have added a pinch of cinnamon. It may seem strange, because the cinnamon does not dissolve. However, you will see that it complements the orange and bourbon beautifully and simply falls to the bottom of your glass. Try it!

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Combine the simple syrup, orange bitters and cinnamon in a lowball glass. Add ice and the bourbon, and stir. Garnish with an orange twist.

Cook’s Note

If you don't have simple syrup on hand, add 1 sugar cube and a few dashes of water instead. Stir well so that the sugar dissolves into the water and bitters before adding the bourbon.
