In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Mix well. Cut in butter and shortening. In a separate bowl, combine cream with beaten egg then add to dry ingredients. Stir in fruit. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Roll dough out and cut into biscuit size rounds. Bake for 15 minutes or until brown.

My oldest son LOVES cranberry-orange scones. I make them often, and always by just googling 'scone recipe'. This recipe is a very good one. They weren't dry. Of course, I also substituted a couple things. I don't keep heavy cream in the house so I used good ole milk. I also use fresh cranberries in my scones. I cook them in a mixture of orange and pomegranate juice and sugar, then I cool them and add them to the mix, juice and all. I added about a quarter cup of extra flour to absorb the extra liquid. I set aside some of the cranberry-orange mixture to make cranberry butter to top them. My little critics all agree, these are the best yet!

I just made these and so far the reviews are good! The dough is a little hard to form into the scone shape. I didn't have shortening or cranberries, however. I substituted the shortening with coconut oil and cranberries with chocolate chips. Good recipe!
