Directions

In a large bowl, add the butter and sugar and cream together with a hand mixer. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and mix until combined. In a medium bowl, mix the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients and continue mixing until incorporated.

Roll the dough into 2 logs that are about 2-inches high and 1-foot long. Wrap them in waxed paper and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Once thoroughly chilled, slice the cookies into 1/2-inch thick rounds and cover with sanding sugar. Place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.

Remove to a wire rack to cool.

I tired this recipe today. I got great results. I got good butter, eggs and most importantly really good cocoa powder. It was very easy. I found after chilling the dough placing the it in the freezer in between batches helped in cutting out the cookies to back.

I wish that I had read this review before I wasted all my time and effort on these cookies. I totally agree, these tasted good, but the mess they made was no where near worth their taste.

I tired making this cookie and I am a very good baker!! Everyone waits for me to make my Holiday baked goods. But this cookie was a disaster!! I don't know why I followed the recipe exactly and I even watched the episode that they made them on. I am so mad that I wasted all that butter!!!
