Fun Dough

Dan Pashman and Laurie March make DIY crafts a breeze on Good to Know. Their latest creative project turns everyday kitchen ingredients into artistic playthings, like this old-school Fun Dough made from baking soda and cornstarch. Not only will their recipe save you a trip to the toy store, it's cheap and chemical-free.

Yield: 1 ball of dough
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Active Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Ease of preparation: easy

INGREDIENTS

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup corn starch
Food coloring

DIRECTIONS

Mix the baking soda and corn starch in a pot. Add 3/4 cup water. Place the pan on the stove over medium heat, stirring constantly. As soon as the dough starts gathering, remove from the heat and cool. Be careful not to overcook or the dough will crumble.

When the mixture cools, knead until smooth. Put on plastic gloves to avoid stained hands. Add a few drops of food coloring and knead the dough until the color is consistent throughout.
