The Restaurant Takeover Team

Each week, Restaurant Takeover challenges two restaurant industry top guns to help rescue a failing restaurant. Meet the experts up for the challenge.

Designer Paula Vez

Paula builds her client-designer relationships on trust, and she prides herself on understanding her clients' tastes and needs. Her inspiration is a balance between functionality and imagination, and her designs are modern and fluid, always accentuating the unique characteristics of each site. Paula's signature look is comfortable elegance for today's lifestyles.

Designer Montana Burnett

Montana creates spaces that are vibrant and unique while keeping her clients' visions and practical needs paramount. Her inspiration is derived from different cultures, and her eclectic spaces speak to this fact.

Designer Cheryl Torrenueva

Known as the "Posh Spice" of the design world, Cheryl is a regular on HGTV's Home To Go, Rooms That Rock and Food Network Canada’s Restaurant Makeover. Cheryl has also worked as the art director for HGTV's Disaster DIY, Design Interns and both seasons of SLICE's Superstar Hair Challenge. Cheryl was chosen to be the feisty on-camera design project manager for HGTV's Colin & Justin's Home Heist

Designer Amanda Campbell

Amanda loves seeing these projects through from beginning to end. Whether it's refinishing antiques, wallpapering or getting her hands dirty in the garden, this ambitious up-and-coming designer always has a project on the go!

Chef Richard Andino

As an executive chef in Canada for more than 20 years, Chef Andino has created many sophisticated, bold-flavored dishes. He pays homage to his Filipino background through spices and flavors that give Canadian ingredients an added element.

Chef Massimo Capra

Born near Cremona, Italy, Massimo studied at the National Culinary Institute in Salsomaggiore, Parma. He began his career working in some of Italy's finest restaurants and hotels, including Trattoria dell' Amelia in Venice, widely considered one of the best restaurants in Italy at the time. Today he is chef and co-owner of Mistura and Sopra Upper Lounge, two well-known restaurants in Toronto offering fine contemporary Italian cuisine and live music, respectively.

Chef Derek Minkensky

Derek's style of cooking is best expressed as "clean and crisp," drawing inspiration and flavors from South America, Asia, Western Europe and North Africa. He believes the best dishes come from knowledge of the ingredients, where they originate, how they are traditionally used, when they are at their peak, and how they respond to various techniques and marry with different flavors.

Chef Andrea Nicholson

Andrea's passion for food is evident in her masterful creations, which celebrate local and seasonal produce and support Canadian farmers. Andrea was a contestant on Season 1 of Food Network Canada's program Top Chef Canada. She is currently an expert chef on The Marilyn Denis Show, and she's the owner and creator of Killer Condiments, an artisan condiment line.

Chef Corbin Tomaszeski

Corbin's personal philosophy is that great food is a means to an end. Food has the ability to connect us all in our daily lives. An executive chef with a reputation for creating destination eateries, Chef Tomaszeski has been known to right culinary wrongs with charming honesty. He is also known for his ability to rebuild lackluster menus with his signature flair and attention to detail.

Chef Adam Hynam-Smith

Adam is the chef and co-owner of El Gastronomo Vagabundo, Ontario's first gourmet street food truck. Nicknamed "El Gastro" by those that eat there, Adam’s truck was recently featured on Cooking Channel's Eat St., and his menu has been dubbed the best street food in Ontario. Adam's pioneering chef techniques have garnered him a reputation for reshaping the standard street food cuisine in Ontario.
