Thirsty Thursday: Go For a Ginger Cranberry Cocktail
It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. Last time we warmed you up with a Mulled Cider; this week we're back with something even better suited for the holidays.
Dotted with frozen cranberries and brimming with its beautiful, deep red hue, the Ginger Cranberry Cocktail is the sort of sip that looks as holiday-inspired as it tastes. Take a healthy serving of vodka, club soda, cranberry juice and lime, stir it all together with homemade ginger syrup, and you've elevated your average vodka cocktail to a concoction worthy of the season. Top it off with a sliver of shaved ginger or two and you're ready to go. Bottoms up, folks.
Place all syrup ingredients in a saucepan and simmer until sugar dissolves and the ginger is infused in the syrup, about 20 minutes. Strain and allow to cool fully before use.
Crush the frozen cranberries in a large glass pitcher. Add the lime juice and their juiced wedges to the pitcher. Pour in the vodka, cranberry juice, and ginger syrup. Put ice in low-ball glasses and fill glasses about 2/3 full. Top off with club soda and garnish with a shaving of fresh ginger.
