Rock This Look: Nadia G.'s Pin-up Style
So you're old. Big deal. Doesn't mean you need to reach for the girdle, stockings or cat-hair housecoat just yet. This week's " Geezer Grub" episode of Nadia G's Bitchin' Kitchen celebrates growing old, or at least making the most out of it. Take our advice and you'll be looking sharp, even if death is knocking at your door. Borrowing from '40s and '50s retro pin-up style, Nadia G. rocks a fun look sure to keep you young at heart, or at the very least, remind you of the good old days.
Big curls are quintessential to the pin-up look. But let's face it — at your age you don't have the patience for rollers and pins. Sometimes, simple is the best way to deal with your graying or thinning hair. This slicked-back low bun is no-fuss style, but makes for a perfect polished look. To get the perfect bun, check out this guide.
Ms. G. has some staple products in her makeup arsenal. "Shroom" M.A.C. eyeshadow, "Brun" M.A.C. eyeshadow, and "Dolly Mix" M.A.C. blush are always a sure thing. This time around G. puckers up with "Cherry" M.A.C. lip liner and "Ruby Woo" M.A.C. lipstick for the perfect pin-up pout. It does double duty, looking great on both your lips and the cheeks of the young people you'll no doubt kiss. You can rock your retro version by following these steps.
G.'s wearing " Lacquered Up" by Essie Nail Polish. Pretty, ain't it? Pin-up style calls for ultra glam and ultra feminine, and red nails scream just that. Stick to va-va-voom colors like pink, orange and red. Who knows, it might just fool your bag boy in to thinking you're a few years younger.
One of the most important items when becoming a pin-up queen is the curve-hugging dress. If it-s a great dress, it-ll give you the knockout hourglass shape whether or not you have it (old age is for recliners, not treadmills). You can also pick a classic starlet, like Marilyn Monroe or Ava Gardner, with great style to emulate . Nadia's dress is from Collectif London, but you can find some adorable retro pieces on Modcloth.
No look would be complete without a killer heel (haven't we taught you that yet?). And gosh, do we love this red-hot number. It's fashion-forward, feminine and fierce — way too advanced for any youngling out there. It features an almond toe — totally in this season — with a hidden platform for that extra height without the dreaded waddle. After all, you never saw Sofia Loren walking like a duck.
G. is sporting her favorites by M. Cohen. You can play around with stacking different but complementing bracelets by choosing like metals with different textures. Just remember that caramels and crumbled tissues are NOT accessories. C'mon.
