Bye-bye, berries. Hello, apples! Apple trees across the country are churning out a bounty of the crunchy, sweet and tart fruits — and it is time to get cooking. But cooking with apples doesn’t need to mean an overdose of sugar and butter. Here at Cooking Channel, you can find lots of apple recipes that are as healthy as they are delicious.

Heart-Healthy

Apple Muffins (pictured): Whole-wheat pastry flour, applesauce, pecans and fresh apples combine in this heart-healthy muffin recipe from dietitian and Chef Ellie Krieger. (These are also a low-cal option.)

Carrot, Green Apple and Mint Salad: Grate apples and carrots, then toss them with a citrusy yogurt dressing for a refreshing side dish.

Chocolate Fondue: Dip apple slices and other fruits in a warm chocolate fondue.

Low-Sodium

It’s a Good Morning Muffins: Emeril crams carrots, parsnips, apples, raisins, pecans and coconut into these morning gems.

Low-Fat

Bobby’s Whole Grain Apple Cranberry Stuffing: Low-fat stuffing? Yes, please. Chicken broth keeps this apple-studded stuffing moist.

Waldorf Chicken Wraps: Apples, grapes and walnuts give this chicken salad its characteristic Waldorf-ness. Ellie makes sure it stays healthy.

Low-Calorie

Awesome Apple Pie-lets: You know it’s going to be a light treat when Hungry Girl makes it. Here she uses wonton wrappers to construct 100-calorie “pie-lets.”

Beet and Apple Salad: Celery root, apples and beets combine in this crunchy fall salad.

High-Fiber

Apple, Dried Cherry and Almond Loaf: This loaf gets natural sweetness from dried cherries and dried apple — along with whole-wheat flour, the dried fruits also provide fiber.

Whole-Wheat Pancakes with Nutty Topping: Grated apples sneak extra nutrition into these yummy pancakes. The apples and the whole-wheat flour also give the pancakes a fiber boost.

Check back later this week for the health benefits of apples.
