Rock This Look: Nadia G Takes On Hipster Style

Calling someone a "hipster" seems like more of an insult than a compliment these days. But if we can look past bulky fedoras, black thick-rimmed glasses and the insistence that a Pabst in hand is an accessory, there is some fun to be had with this fashion trend. Check out G's look from "Hipster Brunch," and you'll be rocking plaid, but avoiding lumberjack comments, in no time!

Dress

Plaid can't be left to only the devices of school uniform designers — or farmers. Rather than decking out head to toe in the trendy print, choose one great piece, like G's Boy by Band of Outsiders dress in blue plaid. It says "I know what’s cool," but it doesn’t leave you dealing with sweating in flannel.

Shoes

Loafers, moccasins and wingtips might be popular with the kids (and their pumped-up kicks), but there's no way we’re trading in our heels for anyone. We'd much rather rock these Balenciaga suede booties, in any color, or even these Louboutin suede ankle boots. In fact, if you're rocking a pair of those flat canvas slip-ons, look out. These booties are looking to take back the attention, and they definitely have ours.

Nail Polish

Whether you're snapping photos with a vintage camera, crocheting or letting everyone in the coffee shop know you're writing a novel, you're going to want to have a nice set of nails. And even if you can't figure out how to do chevrons, polka dots or cartoon characters on your tips like you've seen on Pinterest, a great hot pink will do. G is rocking Hot Tub by Urban Outfitters, and we love this similar bright neon pink by Illamasqua.

Makeup

We're not going to recommend you grow a mustache, but hipsters do like bringing some attention to the faces. G went with her classic MAC standbys, Shroom and Contrast to get the party started on her lids. But to add a little "I liked it before it was cool" spunk, she also rocked Sephora's 12-hour-wear eyeliner in #13 Fancy Blue. Since you don't want to your skin to show that you were out watching the new popular indie band all night, MAC Dollymix blush and Golden bronzer will ensure you’re more chic than zombie wannabe. Then, you're just a smear of Girl About Town lipstick away from kissing boring fashion goodbye.

Vintage Rings

If you're going for full authenticity in your hipster apparel, at least one item on you should be vintage. If everything you’re wearing is worth less than your $5 coffee, don’t forget to brag, also. We absolutely love the vintage silver rings that G had to worry about getting messy on this episode. Hunt for the perfect so-old-it's-cool ring for yourself here!
