3 cups whole or lowfat milk

2 heaping tablespoons best-quality unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar 

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 

2 shots espresso, cooled, optional 


  1. Put the milk, cocoa powder, confectioners' sugar and vanilla into a blender. Blend until smooth and frothy, about 30 seconds. Pour into chilled glasses and add a shot of espresso, if desired.
