Classic Martini

Ice, as needed

1/2 ounce or 1 tablespoon dry vermouth

3 ounces or 6 tablespoons vodka

Olives, for garnish


  1. Put the ice into a martini glass and add the vermouth. Swirl the vermouth and the ice around the glass. Dump out the ice and liquid (See Cook's Note) Shake the vodka over the ice, be careful not to chip the ice too much. Strain into the glass, garnish with olives and enjoy.

The vermouth still coats the glass.
