Fava Beans

Ingredients

2 pounds fresh fava beans, in pods

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 pinch chile flakes

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Shell the fresh fava beans and discard the pods. Heat the oil, garlic powder, chile flakes and some salt and pepper in a pot until the garlic powder turns brown. Add in 3 cups water and bring it to a boil. When the water has been boiling for 2 minutes, add in 1 cup of the fava beans and let them cook for 10 minutes.
  2. To test for doneness, taste one bean. The inside should be very creamy, like a butter bean. If the beans aren't creamy, continue cooking. When all the beans are cooked, strain them in a colander and serve.
