Flavored Simple Syrups

Simple syrups are the heart and soul of most flavored cocktails. Start with your favorite flavor, and you'll barely need to add anything to create the perfect drink. These syrups are also good to have on hand to flavor seltzer.

1/4 cup chopped cucumber

2 tablespoons lightly crushed Juniper berries

1 tablespoon lightly crushed coriander seeds

  1. Combine the sugar, 3/4 cup water and the flavoring ingredients of your choice in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer, lightly muddling the solids and stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and let stand until cool before straining.
