Sandra's Candied Yams

8 medium yams

1 stick butter 

3 cups sugar 

2 tablespoons vanilla extract 

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 

2 teaspoons ground nutmeg 


  1. Peel the yams and cut into 1-inch discs. Place the yams in a large pot. Add the butter, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg and 1/2 cup water. Cook on medium heat until the yams are fork tender and the syrup is thick.
