Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons superfine sugar
  • 8 dashes bitters 
  • 12 ounces bourbon or whiskey 
  • 4 ounces Pernod 
  • Ice 
  • 4 strips lemon peel

Special equipment: a cocktail shaker; a muddler

Muddle the sugar and bitters in a cocktail shaker until the sugar dissolves. Add the bourbon, Pernod and some ice. Shake to combine. Strain into 4 rocks glasses. Garnish with the lemon peels.
