Going out to eat with friends can be an exercise in anxiety. The first part, when you are eating and drinking, is fantastic. The next part, when you are trying to figure out who owes what, is not so fantastic. If only there were an app for that. Actually, there are many, but here is one that may just take the evenly sliced cake.

It's appropriately named Tab and it helps reach billing nirvana by analyzing the actual receipt, which you take a photo of. People claim what they purchased and the app does the rest. Amount, tax and tip is automatically doled out to each person like magic. It can even make special allowances for a birthday boy or girl.

Tab works with iOS or Android devices and, thank goodness, is free.
